Microsoft Word is the only program I want to be using. I used it all throughout my student career and I’ve never known anything else (nor do I want to). I’m comfortable with Word and I can navigate it relatively well. I’m not really tech-savvy so I’m never excited to learn a completely new program.

Out of all the educational standards, I think I resonate with learner the most. In an ever-evolving technological age, we all have to adapt to the up-and-up. The younger generations will continue to evolve/adapt/learn faster than the older generation and it is our responsibility as educators to keep up with them (or at least try to). The standard of “learner” is one of adaptation and curiosity, which is what teachers ought to be especially in this day and age. Technology can be incredibly useful in schooling, and I can’t possibly imagine what future tech has in store, but I know that it is our responsibility to continue to learn and utilize information for the betterment of our students and education.

The term “digital native” doesn’t necessarily resonate with me. I grew up with no internet access or cable, strictly books and imagination (except for the occasional school computer use). I was pretty out of touch with the culture of the internet by the time I gained access to it in 7th grade, and I knew I had a lot of catching up to do. I’m decently caught up now but I still struggle with technology all the time, certain things just don’t come easily to me. So if anything I resonate with the “immigrants” more than the “natives”. That being so, I can still get around more so than my older digital immigrant counterparts. I anticipate that I’ll be leagues behind the newer generations once I have them in the classroom. However, I am going to try my very best to advance and evolve whilst technology does the same (no matter how much trouble I’ll have). In the end technology isn’t everything and I think I could scrape by with the bare minimum knowledge, but I might as well try to utilize it for my own and my students’ benefit.
